Case
Root Canal Treatment of Upper Right First Molar with 5 Canals
Case presentation:
This 57-year old male patient presented with an intermittent, dull, aching pain on right hand side of his face. He identified the UR6 which had recently had a crown placed and reported the tooth was very sensitive to heat.
Diagnosis:
Irreversible pulpitis associated with recently treated carious cavity.
Treatment:
Molar root canal therapy was completed over 2 visits.
Rubber dam isolation and thorough chemo-mechanical preparation was undertaken using Wave One primary, reciprocating nickel titanium rotary files, sodium hypochlorite and EDTA.
5 root canals were found, with separate MB1, MB2 and distal canals. The palatal root had 2 canals, the second palatal canal converging with the main palatal canal at 16mm.
The canals were obturated with taper matched gutta percha cones, AH Plus sealer and warm vertical compaction.
The tooth was symptomless at 12-month review.
